One of the questions we are asked most often at HeliAir Sweden is: how much can a helicopter lift? It is an important one, particularly if you are planning to move a heavy load. In this article we answer the common questions about lifting capacity, type by type.
Lifting capacity differs between helicopter types, and every type has both a maximum and a practical figure.
At HeliAir Sweden the Bell 205/UH-1H lifts a maximum of 1,750 kg, with approximately 1,600 kg as the practical load. The Airbus H125, which carries the bulk of our aerial work, lifts a maximum of 1,400 kg, with 1,200 kg as the practical load. The distinction matters: the maximum is the type’s ceiling, and the practical figure is what a job is actually planned around.
